What are the roles of drill pipe?

Drill pipe is an important component used in drilling or drilling operations and has the following main functions:

1. Transmitting torque and driving force:

Transmits the rotational power of the drilling rig to the drill bit, enabling it to drill underground.

2. transferring drilling fluids:

Transmits mud or other drilling fluids to the drill bit through internal passages to cool the bit, carry rock cuttings, and maintain the stability of the well wall.

3. support and guide:

Provides support and guidance to the drill bit to ensure verticality and orientation of the borehole.

4. connecting drilling tools:

Connects drill pipes of different lengths to form a complete drilling tool set.

5. Increase drilling depth:

You can gradually connect more drill pipes as needed to extend the drilling depth.

6. Protect the drill bit:

Taking part of the torque and load in the drilling process, reducing the burden on the drill bit.

7. Measurement and control:

Certain drill pipes may be equipped with measuring instruments for monitoring downhole conditions.

Characteristics of drill pipe include:

1. sufficient strength and stiffness to withstand the loads during drilling.

2. usually threaded for ease of assembly and disassembly.

3. the surface is treated with anti-corrosion treatment to improve corrosion resistance.

4. suitable materials and specifications can be selected according to different drilling conditions and requirements.

Drill pipes are widely used in oil, natural gas, geological exploration, mineral mining and other fields.
