How does a mud pump work?

The working principle of the mud pump is as follows:

The mud pump is driven to rotate the pump shaft by a power unit (such as an electric motor or internal combustion engine).

The impeller on the pump shaft rotates with it, and the rotation of the impeller generates centrifugal force.

When the mud enters the pump chamber, it is thrown to the edge of the impeller under the action of centrifugal force and gains kinetic energy.

Then the mud is discharged at high speed along the flow channel of the pump casing, thus realizing the pumping and conveying of mud.

In this process, the mud pump continuously extracts the mud from the storage area such as the mud pool and conveys it to the borehole at a certain pressure and flow rate to meet various needs during the drilling process, such as cooling and chip removal. At the same time, it also needs to adapt to different working conditions and mud characteristics to ensure stable and reliable operation.
